Telannia is a math teacher and department chair in Oklahoma City, Vice-President of High Schools for Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics and National Faculty Member for BIE. Telannia used and modified CrafED’s Point of View Tool to fit to her students to give them a new view on pre-calculus. Keep reading to see how Telannia altered the tool to fit her students’ needs.

How did you implement the Point of View Tool in your classroom?
“It was time for students to make decisions on whose ideas will go in the reference sheet. The point of view tool was used to help them make those decisions. Students first wrote the names of the emotions on the different color sticky notes. They then wrote how they felt about the emotion on a form provided (see attached). They took turns lead by the manager of the teams sharing what they wrote. They then talked about a common meaning for the emotion.”
How did this protocol impact students?
“I like how the protocol helps address common emotions that occur when making decisions with other people. It made it okay to be frustrated or concerned rather than people feeling like they should not share that voice. I think it is a great protocol for students to use on a regular basis and gives them a tool they could use whenever they are going to work with a group of people.”
