White-labled PBL course design for virtual school

Client: K12 Schools

The Challenge:

K12 Schools are a set of virtual schools that provide traditional learning experiences to students across the United States. K12 Schools was looking to move several traditional courses into a Project- based learning (PBL)  format, as to increase student engagement and workforce readiness. K12 Schools did not have any curriculum writers with PBL experience, so they reached out to CraftED to design four pilot courses that would take existing K12 Schools (traditional) content and redesign into a PBL framework.

The Solution:

CraftED put together a team of four veteran PBL educators, each aligned with the area of expertise for the four courses (Design, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Biology). CrafTED had ongoing contact with several members of the client’s team to develop a “big picture” understanding of the project. CraftED also worked closely with the (K12 Schools) manager of the project to ensure that all necessary nuances were addressed for their learning platform and tech team who would be inputting the curriculum CraftED designed.

The Results:

  • CraftED’s team collaborated closely to create projects for four high school courses that moved from a traditional model to fully project-based.
  • K12 Schools was one of the first online entities to provide a fully virtual PBL experience in 2019.
  • CraftED’s ultimately provided fully white-labled curriculum for K12 Schools that included: standards mapping, pacing, assessments, teacher notes and student handouts, along with ideas for making community connections and extensions for project ideas.
