As an educator on the PBL beat I hear the phrase “voice and choice” A LOT. And I’ve learned it means a lot of different things to different people. In most cases I find that it leads to a great deal of anxiety because it makes most teachers feel totally out of control-like the class is staging a coup. This quick post is a reminder that voice and choice can start small and it can mean students having the opportunity to research topics and people that allow them to see themselves in what they are learning.

I have both a daughter and a son and I find that this process is much more challenging for my daughter-there just isn’t material for young girls to learn about other females in science, sports and advocacy; like there are males. I wanted to share this resource that I have provided at home, in addition to sports books by Jake Maddox-perhaps they can inspire your daughters and female students too!
