back to school instagram post

It’s that time of year again…Alarm clocks are set for the first time in months, staff and teacher PD meetings are happening, classrooms are being set-up,  and Target seasonal and school supply shelves are empty. What time of year is it? BACK TO SCHOOL!  Time starts to feel like it’s running out as every teacher writes their never-ending ToDo list. Never fear, your PBL Superhero is here! In an effort to take one thing off your plate this B2S season, below are my top 10 items for Back to School shopping that every teacher will want to have for a successful year ahead with PBL. And goodness knows you don’t have time for additional reading right now, so bookmark this page and come back to it in a few weeks to learn more about why you need each item on this Back to School PBL materials list 😉 ..for now just load your cart up with those new class funds!

Must-Have PBL Materials

  • Blue tape- Every project needs a project management SCRUM board
  • Butcher paper – Project brainstorms, Carousel protocols, Chalk talks and more.
  • Post it’s- Great for exit tickets (here is my favorite to post around the room) with project reflections or peer feedback on projects.
  • Wire line and clips- Show the beautifully messy benchmark process or display final products.
  • Hanging folder rack- Easy way for students to organize ongoing project work.
  • Canvas packs, acrylic paint, paint brushes and a color wheel- Make the small investment for a final PBL product to be beautifully curated in your classroom.
  • Power tools- You never know when you will need these for final products or exhibiting student work!
  • Carts or baskets for table groups – Pro tip: have all materials ready for each project group daily.
  • Window pens and dry erase pens- Fun way to display brainstorms or silent, interactive discussions.
  • Moleskin journal – keep it around at all times; you never know when a project idea will come to you!
