Summary:

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, artificial intelligence in education is no longer optional, it’s essential. A recent webinar, “AI Workforce and Economic Mobility: How Policymakers Can Advance Opportunity,” brought together cross-sector leaders to discuss how we can harness AI in schools to create real economic opportunity.

As an advocate for project-based learning at CraftED Curriculum, I was particularly inspired by the clear connections between entrepreneurship education, AI tools for education, and authentic PBL.

Why Entrepreneurship + AI Matters for Students

Entrepreneurship classes teach “durable skills” (the ability to quickly learn new tools, handle rejection, iterate, and remain accountable). These are precisely the qualities AI cannot fully replicate.

Speakers emphasized that while  AI teaching tools are incredibly powerful, they are most effective when paired with human resilience and creativity. “AI is made to keep you happy,” one noted, underscoring that students still need real-world experiences that build grit.

The Teacher Support Gap

Despite growing interest in what are the best AI tools for teachers, a recent Gallup poll reveals that only 18% of teachers are receiving formal professional development for AI.

Cody Chang captured it well:  “We need to work hand in hand with PD to truly support teachers.”

Without proper training, the potential of AI in the classroom remains untapped, and frankly irresponsible.

Project-Based Learning as the Bridge

The strongest theme was the need to give students access to the same AI tools for education that professionals actually use to solve real problems. This mirrors high-quality project-based learning, where students tackle authentic challenges, iterate on solutions, and develop both technical and human skills.

Leaders like Johnny Palumbo reminded us that soft skills and human-to-human interaction will remain essential even as AI agents become more prevalent. In an uncertain job market, transferable skills matter most.

A Call to Action for Educators and Policymakers

To truly advance opportunity, we must:

– Provide teachers with dedicated PD on AI teaching tools

– Integrate real-world AI applications into project-based curricula

– Focus on building entrepreneurial mindsets alongside technology

The future belongs to students who can work with AI, by using it as a powerful collaborator rather than a replacement for human creativity and leadership.
