I wish my kids could do that! With so much interest in what we have been doing at CraftED Academy, I decided to create mini-PBL experiences through Learning Sprints this summer. Based on interest and availability I will be offering one Summer Learning Spring (see descriptions below), one Book Club and one Writing for Literacy Writers Workshop. Under the Sea

Overview: There is a whole world under the sea that awaits our exploration! In this Sprint we will conver fun topics ranging from kelp forests, to marine ecosystems and energy, reefs and the animals and plants that call this incredible place home. The more we grow to learn and love the ocean, the more we can help protect it-which is what we will do with a final mini-project that promotes awareness at the coast.

Living off the Land: Kumeyaay then and now

Overview: Our local history in San Diego is rich, and yet we drive by historic places and never think twice about how we all got here! In this Sprint we will learn about the Kumeyaay tribe and what life was like for them prior to European Exploration and the California MIssion System. Integrating social studies, science and art, we will create our very own “Living off the land “ survival handbook to capture all that we learn in this Sprint.

Captivity and conservation

Overview: We all love visiting the San Diego Zoo, but do you know the story of how the Zoo came to be? And the story of each animal that lives there? In this Sprint we will learn about the many animals in our zoo and the impacts of captivity and conservation on their survival. We will also learn how to write our opinion about captivity and design an enclosure with maximum enhancements to mimic survival of our favorite animal.
