CraftED Academy Presents

Spring Student Writing Workshop Series

Does your child need a little more time and support in writing since COVID school closures? If you are looking for a supplement to their existing school work, without overwhelming them with more tedious tasks, you are in the right place!

This 3-4 week workshop series is designed to provide additional time, grade-level strategies, structure and individualized writing support for students in grades 4-7. All workshops are developed and facilitated by expert educator and award-winning education author, Dr. Jenny Pieratt.

How it works:

Each workshop includes the following weekly learning opportunities:

  • 1 hour Small Group Mini-lesson; in-person in Cardiff. Groups will be no larger than five students. Virtual options available at request. The workshop schedule models the entire writing process:
    • Week 1- Analyzing models (mentor texts, exemplars) and background development (informational reading, research); Brainstorm strategies
    • Week 2- Outlining and organizing your thoughts
    • Week 3- Structuring your writing (transitional phrases, variety in vocabulary, integrating information, citing sources)
    • Week 4- Drafting beautiful work: Edit/revise (embedded grammar and spelling review), Final published writing
  • 1 midweek Writing Conference– 15-30 minute one-on-one writing conference via zoom.  During this time we will discuss individual writing needs, goals and specific strategies or reteaching needed. These individual meetings are scheduled at your convenience using my Calendly link.
  • Approximately 1 hour of recommended independent work in between weekly lessons.
